Introducing: Alexa Melo

Introducing 20-year-old Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Alexa Melo, who at the age of 5 started appearing in local plays and talent competitions. At age 9 she was a guest on the Maury Povich Show as a "Child Singing Sensation" as well as NBC's America's Most Talented Kids, where she won the "Diva Special" as the youngest contestant.

Born in Dartmouth Massachusetts, Alexa later moved across the country with her family to pursue a career in music and acting. In between extensive vocal lessons and attending both the Hollywood Pop Academy and The Hollywood Launch, Alexa spent her spare time writing songs on her keyboard and GarageBand. And by age 13 she taught herself ukulele, harmonica, piano and bass but found the guitar to be her most productive writing tool.

Alexa signed her first record deal at age 14 to Interscope with the assistance of Kenny Edmonds (Babyface) with Ron Fair as her A&R. She spent the next year recording with producer Chris James and completing an album with producer Eric Valentine. She then worked with Jimmy Iovine and Dallas Austin before being reassigned to Island Def Jam Records where she recorded with Maylay, Tech and many more. All the while, Alexa produced her own music on Pro Tools in a studio she set up in her bedroom, resulting in 13 albums over the following 6 years. None of the music matched with Interscope or Island Def jam’s pop agenda, and hence remain unpublished. At age 18 she was paired with producer Christian James-Hand which resulted in her current untitled debut album. Due to artistic differences, Alexa recently parted ways with Island Def Jam in an effort to pursue a career where she could stay true to her vision.

Alexa is now starting a new chapter as an independent rock artist, playing shows in and around the Los Angeles area with her six-piece band while also currently in the process of putting the finishing touches on her upcoming debut album which is scheduled for release sometme this spring or early summer. Alexa doesn't have any original music posted online as of right now, however, you can check out her rather impressive rendition of Radiohead's seminal masterpiece "Lotus Flower" off their 2011 album, The King Of Limbs below.
